About
John Monetta was born in San Diego and is a third-generation Californian. He graduated from UCLA and spent more than 25 years living and working in the Bay Area before recently returning to San Diego. John brings a cross-sector perspective shaped by decades of work in municipal government, real estate, and entrepreneurial ventures, with a focus on helping organizations navigate complex projects and partnerships.
For more than two decades with the City of Oakland, John led the end-to-end management of the Gateway Industrial District redevelopment at the former Oakland Army Base — a nationally significant public infrastructure and economic development project. He directed complex land transactions, oversaw major public infrastructure investments funded by regional, state and federal sources, and worked closely with federal, state, and regional agencies to deliver large-scale redevelopment initiatives. His work required navigating environmental remediation, tidelands trust issues, interagency agreements, public-private partnerships, and complex development planning while protecting public interests and advancing long-term economic development.
Today, John focuses on advising public agencies, private developers, and mission-driven organizations working on complex real estate and infrastructure initiatives. Drawing on his experience inside government as well as in private and entrepreneurial environments, he helps organizations structure projects, manage risk, build productive partnerships, and move large initiatives from concept through implementation.
